Oh, Hello!

Are you still here? Sorry about that. I've got two important things to talk about today.

Thing the first: PIE. Yes, pie. Vegan Pie in the Sky is due out next month and it's amazing. If you have tastebuds, you should go preorder it. Go on. I'll wait.

Got it? Good. You're welcome. All the recipes are delicious, most of them are easy and some of them are fast enough to make after work (maybe with a bit of advance prep work). Here's a small sampling of the ones I tested. Do not judge them by my photos, because if there's anything I'm worse at than baking pretty things, it's photography.

Blueberry cheesecake

You know what's so great about that cheesecake (aside from its deliciousness)? It's Tofutti-free. None of the cheesecake recipes in this book use cream cheese. It's an amazing combination of bananas, tofu and soaked cashews that's light, creamy and delicious.

Chocolate cheesecake

Apple pie
I doubled up on these for a friend's birthday and everyone loved them. Classic and delicious.

Pear cranberry galette in a buckwheat crust
It took me a while to get used to the buckwheat crust, but I'm digging it now. Also, galettes? Too cute, easier to shape than pies and no pan to wash when you're done!

Peach basil pie
Possibly the best thing I ever ate. No lie.

Sweet potato orange ginger cobbler
And with ice cream:

Figgy apple hand pies

Made those for a bake sale. They didn't sell so well. Maybe because they didn't look particularly tidy. Maybe because people don't trust figs. I was surprised into liking them myself.

Speaking of bake sales...Sea Shepherd represent!

Which brings me to thing the second: I'm not very good at writing about food. I like it, but not enough to do it all the time (obviously). In order to keep this blog active, I think I'm going to start posting about other things that interest me. Probably animals and other things related to veganism. I don't really have a plan or anything, we'll just see how it goes. In the meantime, enjoy your pies!
