Tis the Season

For cookies!

This week, I attended a cookie swap and reading for the Zinester's Guide to New York City (which everybody with any kind of interest in NYC should pick up), featuring pieces (and a whole vegan section) by Melissa Bastian. Sadly, she and I were the only people to bring vegan cookies (and someone brought - and wrote a song about - bacon brittle), but that didn't keep us from eating a whole hell of a lot of them.

Melissa made her famous chocolate chip cookies (if they aren't famous, they should be; they are DELICIOUS!) and I made the dark chocolate truffle cookies from The Vegan Cookie Connoisseur.

Hells. Yes. The cookies are nice and crispy on the outside, soft, a bit fudgy and super chocolatey on the inside, thanks to the melted chocolate in the dough. I was afraid all the powdered sugar would make them too sweet, but they were just fine. The rich, chocolate combined with snowy sugar make these a great winter cookie. They're also lovely for breakfast with some peppermint tea (not that I've been eating cookies for breakfast or anything, but how can you go wrong with chocolate and mint, right? Of course right).

they look great! I just made Isa and Terry's Mexican Chocolate Snickerdoodles from VCTOYCJ for a work cookie thing today. Mine were the only vegan cookies there, but you know what, they were the best, too! Suck it, dunkin donuts that someone brought in!
